Assisted by funds from the Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG), Carnegie UK Trust, in partnership with Community Finance Solutions, are issuing invitations to tender for organisations to act as the Community Land Trust National Facilitation Body.

Inquiry Commissioner speaks at Oxford Media Convention
Inquiry Commissioner, Joyce McMillan, spoke at the Oxford Media Convention (OMC) on a panel discussing ‘Citizens, ethics and the media in a global age’ about the Inquiry’s work regarding the importance of engaging civil society associations in the democratization of media and the creation of news content.
The Convention, the foremost event on media for industry and senior government figures, explored the current and future challenges and opportunities around domestic media policy, strategy, regulation and the media landscape more generally.

‘We have recognised that the most important elements driving regeneration are people-based: ideas, attitudes, culture and narratives. This is a hopeful message in some ways because investing in people is cheaper than huge infrastructure projects – but it is much harder to do and to justify. Our research points to the need to redress the balance of regeneration programmes, away from expensive capital projects to investment in locally inspired action.’

Rural Convention 2009- Reporting Back
Over 100 delegates enrolled in the fifth Carnegie Rural Convention which was held in Kendal, Cumbria on November 23rd and November 24th, 2009. In the end 96 individuals actually attended: a remarkable turnout in view of the fact that the event coincided with the major flooding in Cumbria.
After the Crunch: What Has Been Learned? - Chair of Carnegie Inquiry speaks at finance event
Geoff Mulgan, Chair of the Inquiry into the Future of Civil Society, gave a speech to a packed audience at this year’s Financial Services Research Forum autumn seminar, ‘After the Crunch: What Has Been Learned?’. Whilst other speakers focused on the responsibility of government, the financial regulators, and the functioning of the market, Geoff’s speech reflected on the role of civil society in relation to the financial sector.
