THE TRUST'S INVOLVEMENT IN NEWS AND MEDIA
In 2010, the Carnegie UK Trust launched Making Good Society, the final report of the independent Commission of Inquiry into the Future of Civil Society.  One of the outcomes of this report said that the new media was facing huge new pressures and expressed the need for civil society to play a role in shaping public news and information for the future.  Recent events in the world of journalism have accentuated this need and the Trust has continued to investigate some of the challenges and opportunities facing serious journalism in the UK and to make suggestions about actions and initiatives that will strengthen the supply of high quality news.

VOICING THE PUBLIC INTEREST
The Trust worked in partnership with the think tank, Demos, to produce this report which was published in October 2012.  It investigates the definition of the term 'public interest' and as well as exploring the legal and ethical contexts of the term, presents results of new polling indicating public attitudes to the public interest.  More information can be found in our news story here and you can download the report here.
